Snoqualmie Falls

Despite the angle, I’m actually not even at the ground level.

Snoqualmie Falls was the location I used to shoot the Unicorn Mage cosplay from Whimsy Aly two Sundays ago. I chose this location as this was one of the areas that was closer to both me and the cosplayer. Whimsy Aly wanted to shoot in a location that was forested to fit a nature theme. Not only would there be areas with lots of trees in the background, but there was a river and a waterfall nearby that I thought I could take advantage of.

What I had failed to foresee and ask in advanced was if I would be able to take pictures near the actual waterfall. From what I had seen out of other pictures of the waterfall, it was apparent there were photographers that had taken some gorgeous pictures with it in the background.

As such, one could imagine my disappointment when I reached the end of the lower observation deck and found out they had fenced off the area where you could drop down to the ground level. It wasn’t without good reason, of course. I suppose there were far too many visitors who paid no heed to the signs indicating changes in the river and water level happens extremely quickly. While you can scale the fences and go down at your own risk, it was not something I would have wanted to do with my client (as it would have proved even more difficult to get back up). I’ve yet to confirm, however I believe to take pictures down at that level, one would have to contact the staff so that they could open the fence door and allow entrance.

Despite this unfortunate news, there were still several locations one could take advantage of. There is a hike most people typically take from the top of the hill going down to the lower part of the waterfall. Thankfully there’s a parking spot for both the upper and lower location. About 5 minutes away from the waterfall observation deck, you can head down to the riverside to capture some nice images. There are also a few places where you can sit down on the sand for a picnic.

This is certainly a location I’d recommend using as a photoshoot spot. There are a lot of great places you can use to help with any nature theme. I would definitely call one of the staff members to see if you are able to take photos near the waterfall. If that is what you plan, then I would certainly go after a few days of no rain so you don’t have to worry about sudden water levels rising. Last thing you need is to put both you, your client, and your equipment in danger.

Here are some pictures I took while I was scouting the area

After the photoshoot was over, I naturally had to take advantage of the lovely area and take a few toy photography shots.

Thanks as always for visiting the page!
